There are 2 primary logarithm scales – Base 10 and Base 2.

Base 10 progresses “too fast,” typically leaving a great deal of space at the top and bottom of the chart. When you employing “Base 2” charts, you have a great deal more control of the final appearance. In MS Excel, you can actually pick both the bottom and top values used, which allows you to “fine tune” the look and feel of the chart. Base 10 charts only show values 1, 10, 100, 1000, etc. As a result, I find Base 2 Log charts FAR more useful than Base 10 charts.
